However, the quick lateral movements, sudden stops, and overhead shots can take a toll on joints and increase fall risk if your body isn’t prepared. Led by a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy, this hands-on workshop covers the most common pickleball injuries and how to prevent them, safe falling techniques, a proper warm-up and cool-down routine, and targeted strength exercises for your hips, knees, and shoulders.Instructor: Dr. Jenna Ugorowski Dr. Jenna Ugorowski believes that staying active safely is the key to a lifetime of movement, confidence, and independence. This fun, fast-paced 90-minute sampler class is the perfect introduction to the mesmerizing world of the pottery wheel. Forget complicated projects—this experience is all about the thrill of the spin and the magic of centering clay. Parent/Special Adult and Child pairs will share a wheel, working side-by-side with an instructor. We'll guide you through the essential first steps: how to prepare the clay, how to center it on the wheel, and how to pull up a basic cylinder. It's a fantastic, low-commitment way to test the waters and create a memorable, collaborative piece. What you'll create: We focus on the experience rather than a finished product. You'll both attempt to throw a small bowl or cup. One final piece per person will be selected, trimmed, glazed, and fired by our staff in the color of your choice (included in the price!). No experience necessary—just bring a willingness to laugh, learn, and get a little messy!Register 1 child and 1 parent/guardian (or other special adult). Dress for mess! Please wear appropriate clothes for making art. We provide quality programming before and after school, during most non-school days, and in certain inclement weather situations. We also run a super fun summer session! Clean out your closets and refresh your family game shelf at the Byron Puzzle and Game Exchange, hosted during Discovery Day at the Community Education Center (CEC)! It’s the perfect, eco-friendly way to gear up for cozy winter game nights. How the Swap Works To keep things simple and fun, we are using a flat-rate token system this year: Donate Early: Drop off your gently used games or puzzles at any Byron school building between October 26 and November 5. Get Your Tokens: Every participant will receive 3 tokens at the door on the day of the event. Shop the Exchange: Use your 3 tokens to select 3 "new-to-you" games or puzzles to take home! Quality Control Guidelines (Help Us Keep it Fun!) To ensure everyone goes home with a game or puzzle they can actually enjoy, please review these quality guidelines before dropping off your donations: Board Games: Must be gently used and include all essential rules, boards, cards, and playing pieces. Jigsaw Puzzles: Must have all pieces intact. If you know a puzzle is missing a piece or two, please place a sticky note on the box that explicitly states: "Missing [X] pieces." Secure Packaging: Please secure all boxes! Use a rubber band or painter's tape to hold box lids shut, or place loose pieces/cards inside Ziploc bags inside the box so nothing gets lost in transit. What to Skip: Please do not donate games that are heavily damaged, moldy, dirty, or missing core components that make them unplayable. Rise and Rally Morning PickleballPickleballRise & Rally: Morning Pickleball Start your day with a perfect serve! Join us for Morning Open Pickleball from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, Monday through Friday. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, our vibrant pickleball community is the ideal place to hone your skills, meet new friends, and have a blast.We have 3 indoor courts available to play on. Bring your own paddle and pickleballs. Many of the participants use Spond to help coordinate who is showing up each day. If you are interested, please look at the Bulletin Board outside of the gym for more information. You can pick how much pickleball you would like to participate in by purchasing punches! Log in at the kiosk outside of the gym each day you play. Please note, that punches will expire on June 30, 2027. Safe Driver ClassHealth and SafetyIn the Safe Driving Class you will learn driving strategies that can keep you safer on the road. You will learn updates to traffic laws, how to reduce distractions to driving and how to navigate different intersections. Driver’s age 55 years old and older who successfully complete the Safe Driver Class will qualify for reductions in their automobile insurance premiums. Please remember to bring your driver’s license with you to class. The course fee is $15 payable to the instructor at the time of the class. Located at 630 1st Ave NW in Byron. To participate, please give them a call at 507-287-2010 any time before 2:00 the day before you want a meal. Diabetic dessert options are available. Meals are prepared without sodium. Bingo is offered the Third Wednesday of each month. Senior Cafe is funded by the Older Americans Act. The cost is $4 per meal. $3.50 per meal for persons 60+ with purchase of a 5-meal punch card.
