Intermediate 1Intermediate 1: The Skill-Builder Level Push your boundaries and master new techniques! The Byron Community Education Gymnastics program provides a fun, safe, and physically active outlet for kids. Intermediate 1 is designed for athletes who have mastered the basics and are ready for the increased physical demands of more complex gymnastics movements. 🤸 What We Focus On Technical Progression: Building on the foundation of Beginner 2 with a focus on the precision and power needed for intermediate maneuvers. The 19-Skill Challenge: Gymnasts work toward mastering a specific checklist of 19 intermediate skills to progress to the next level. Enhanced Conditioning: Dedicated focus on the increased strength and flexibility required to perform more difficult skills safely. 📋 Class Details Eligibility: Designed for boys and girls ages 7 and up. Prerequisite: Gymnasts must have successfully passed Beginner 2 or have at least two years of previous gymnastics experience. Intermediate 2 is the final stepping stone before our Advanced level, focusing on the high-level coordination needed for complex combinations and "big" skills. 🤸 What We Focus On Intermediate Skills: Moving toward technical mastery with skills like cartwheels on the balance beam and back handsprings on the floor. Flight Preparation: Strengthening the muscles and techniques required for the aerial movements found in the Advanced tier. Skill Mastery: Continuing to work through the intermediate progression checklist to ensure total readiness for the final recreational level. 📋 Class Details Eligibility: Designed for athletes who have successfully completed Intermediate 1. Intermediate School (entering 3rd-6th)Child CareProject Kids (PK) offers school age child care throughout the year for children in preschool through 5th grade. We provide quality programming before and after school, during most non-school days, and in certain inclement weather situations. We also run a super fun summer session! Although PK is considered one program, children are separated by age into three unique groups: Teddy Bears > serves Byron Preschool students who are at least three years of age by September 1 of the applicable school year, Community Education Center (CEC) Cub Cadets > serves students in kindergarten through 2nd grade, Primary School (BPS) Grizzlies > serves students in 3rd through 5th grade, Intermediate School (BIS) PK provides children with daily opportunities to participate in fun and educational experiences—such as physical activities/sports; organized and self-directed play; arts and crafts; music and dance; games; homework help; field trips (summer); and even the exploration of science, engineering, and nature. Intro to Wheel Throwing for Middle SchoolersArts and CraftsReady to take a spin? This session introduces students to the magic of the pottery wheel. This class guides students through the tactile process of centering, opening, and pulling clay to create their first functional vessels. While designed for beginners, we warmly welcome returning students who wish to refine their technique and experiment with new forms. KarateSports and RecreationLittle Dragons for ages 5-7: This high-energy class introduces young students to the basics of martial arts through fun movement drills, beginner techniques, and structured games. Little Dragons focuses on building confidence, coordination, listening skills, and respectful behavior — laying the foundation for future martial arts training. Youth Beginner/White Belts Class for ages 8-12: Perfect for first-time students or new white belts, this class teaches the fundamentals of karate — including basic blocks, stances, kicks, and dojo etiquette. Students will improve focus, balance, and body control while gaining the confidence to progress in skill and rank. Youth Intermediate Class for White thru Green Belts: This class is for students ranked white belt through green belt. Students will continue their rank progression through one-steps, forms, blocks, kicks, and sparring foundations. Emphasis is placed on proper technique and memorization, along with American States Karate values and martial arts history. Teen & Adult Class for Beginning thru Green Belt: For teens and adults who are new to karate or ranked up to green belt. Students will learn one-steps, forms, blocks, kicks, and sparring foundations. MAGA GymnasticsMAGA Competitive Gymnastics: The Performance Level Join the Byron team and take your gymnastics to the competitive stage! The Byron Community Education MAGA program is the highest level of our gymnastics offerings. This program transitions athletes from recreational learning to a competitive team environment, focusing on routine mastery, sportsmanship, and representing the Byron community at regional meets. 🤸 What We Focus On Competitive Edge: Developing high-level routines on all four Olympic events (Vault, Bars, Beam, and Floor) to be performed in front of judges. Technical Mastery: Focusing on the precision, form, and "sticking the landing" required for competitive scoring. Team Unity: Building strong bonds with teammates while learning the value of sportsmanship, discipline, and perseverance. 📋 Program Details Eligibility: This is an audition-based or invitation-only level. Pottery Wheel Sampler Class: Parent/Special Adult & ChildArts and CraftsGrades: Students in Grades 2-12 plus parent/guardian/special adult Get Muddy Together! This fun, fast-paced 90-minute sampler class is the perfect introduction to the mesmerizing world of the pottery wheel. Forget complicated projects—this experience is all about the thrill of the spin and the magic of centering clay. Parent/Special Adult and Child pairs will share a wheel, working side-by-side with an instructor. We'll guide you through the essential first steps: how to prepare the clay, how to center it on the wheel, and how to pull up a basic cylinder. It's a fantastic, low-commitment way to test the waters and create a memorable, collaborative piece. What you'll create: We focus on the experience rather than a finished product. You'll both attempt to throw a small bowl or cup. One final piece per person will be selected, trimmed, glazed, and fired by our staff in the color of your choice (included in the price!). No experience necessary—just bring a willingness to laugh, learn, and get a little messy!Register 1 child and 1 parent/guardian (or other special adult). Dress for mess! Please wear appropriate clothes for making art. If you or your child has long hair, please pull hair back while working on the wheel.Long fingernails should be trimmed back as they get in the way for pottery making.Participants will be provided an apron at class. Safe Driver ClassHealth and SafetyIn the Safe Driving Class you will learn driving strategies that can keep you safer on the road. You will learn updates to traffic laws, how to reduce distractions to driving and how to navigate different intersections. Driver’s age 55 years old and older who successfully complete the Safe Driver Class will qualify for reductions in their automobile insurance premiums. Please remember to bring your driver’s license with you to class. The course fee is $15 payable to the instructor at the time of the class. There is also a $5 nonrefundable facility/host fee payable to Community Education which will secure your place in the class. Please bring a valid Driver's License.Summer 2026
